I'm home

Well, I've been from West to East and from North to South and back again. I went from here to Dallas and then to NY and then down to South Carolina and across the state of Virginia across the Chesapeake Bay up through Delaware into Philadelphia to see the Liberty Bell and then on back to NY. My family gave me a surprise 40th birthday party the night before I left, I won't really be 40 until 4/4 but it was great to see everyone. I'm so glad that I have learned so much with my digital camera. I have some really cool evening shots and would really like to learn how to take better ones. I used lower exposure without a flash and also use the white balance a bit more but I would like to learn more about taking evening pictures or really low light pictures.

I will be posting them as soon as I can. I also came home to two new photo subjects whom you will meet. Dakota and Willie, my new pekingese companions who are about 7 weeks old and they are so cute I can hardly stand it, and very small too. I didn't really need 2 more pups in my already full house but they are totally adorable.

this was my homework

just having fun

Having to do this self portrait was fun especially when Julia already had taken a bunch of pictures of herself to my surprise. What a character she can be.

I really like the collage feature on Picasa, and some of the other features that enhance the pictures.

The many faces of Margaret while she is goofing off with the self portraits

Having a good time

I'm really enjoying this class. I have always had an interest in photography and worked for a few years in one hour photo shops. We actually took the time to adjust the colors and make corrections while the pictures were being printed. If they came out and it was obvious that the object was a sunset or a mountain, we could put the negative back in the machine and correct it and reprint it.
Most machines don't seem to be done like that any more.

The thing I'm really enjoying with the digital camera is that the picture is right there, especially if it is a still shot, and you can look at to see if it's good. If it's blurry or just yucky, you can retake the picture with any adjustment you want to make. The thing I find when trying to take moving objects like animals, is that more often than not they come out blurry, where a regular film camera may capture the shot clearly but you won't know until the film is developed whether it's good or not. We have a pretty simple digital camera so the thought of investing is something a little higher in ability, is pretty tempting at this point.

Taking this class has just renewed my interest and passion for photography and the ability to capture unique and unusual shots. I really like the close ups I can get with the digital. I'm having fun and learning alot too.
